Dear Sharon, Richard, Chris and Mary Liz:
I am so sorry to hear about Dick and regret I was not able to attend his service.
I treasure many fond memories of Dick during the years we worked together at T.E. Moor & Co. and thought I would share this favorite:
One late November afternoon - 1991 or thereabouts, - Dick and I were entrusted with a collection taken up by the ladies we worked with to purchase a Christmas tree for the decorating party they had planned for the next evening. “Guys – get a real nice one!” was our marching order.
After some careful “planning” - at Hoffbrau I believe - we decided it would really be more in the “spirit of the holidays” to search for the homeliest tree we could find. So tickled with ourselves after returning to the office that night, we concurred that maybe our prize tree could look just a little homelier. Outside, laughing hysterically - taking turns throwing our “Charlie Brown” tree up against the building; Mac, the building janitor, stuck his head out the door to see what all the commotion was. As Dick was heaving the tree one last time, Mac - shaking his head - mumbled something I’m sure we really didn’t want to hear, closed the back door and went inside. OK - maybe homely enough.
Sitting together drinking coffee in the office the following morning, Dick and I proudly awaited our well deserved thanks and expressions of gratitude. After a half hour or so of ugly faces, frustrated sighs, several “how could you’s” and “how many beers did our money buy” - we decided it would be in our best interest to bring out the beautiful seven foot fur tree we hid in the building’s mechanical room the night before.
What a great memory I’m proud to have been a part of and what a beloved man Dick was.
Wes
