Joe M. Beaty, 87, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 in Beaumont, Texas. Joe was born on a farm near Gatesville, Texas on January 7, 1921 to Charles and Willie Beaty, now deceased.

Also preceding him in death were his brother, C.W. Beaty; and sister, Dorothy Cox.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary E. Beaty of sixty-two years; three sons, Joe Beaty and his wife Cindy, Dale Beaty and his wife Paula and Kenneth Beaty and his wife Sherry; a proud grandfather of five, Jonathan, Lauren, John, Joe K., and Kristin Beaty. Joe came from a large family and is also survived by his sisters, Freda Holly, Eloise Wilson, Marie and Clifford Towler and Janice McCorkle; brother, W.L. Beaty; along with a large group of close and loving friends.

Joe was a veteran of World War II. S/SGT Beaty was a ground crew chief on B-26 bombers. His plane “Ole Smokey” was with the 557th Bomb Squadron, 387th Bomb Group based in England, France, and Holland.

Joe was retired from Sears with thirty-three years of service. He was an avid fisherman all of his adult life and never missed an opportunity, even as recently as June of this year, to go to his fishing lodge on Lake Sam Rayburn. His passion and joy to fish and always trying something new to improve his skills as a fisherman never left him. For over forty years, he put up Purple Martin houses and loved to watch and observe birds.

The family would like to thank Dr. Linda Ray and her staff at Beaumont Adult Medicine for their care and compassion.

A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

I am so sorry to hear about Joe's passing. Wish I could be there in person for all of you. All of us from Kentucky send our sympathy, blessing and love in this time of need. My Dad and he were so close and I know he was standing right there waiting on him. They will have great fish stories and cabin stories to talk about, also growing up stories to talk about. All of you are in our prayers and thoughts.
Love Helen

I fist met Joe Senior for the first time about seven years back when Joe Jr. invited me and my son Billy to join himself and son Jonathon in an outing to the family fish camp at Sam Rayburn. We had a fantastic time catching crappie and bass on Joe Sr.’s homemade sunken fish structures that he located with GPS (I was amazed - I could figure mine out and he was happy to share with me the tricks of the gadget). The hospitality of Joe and Mary and the sweet smells of southern cooking took me home to Virginia and gave me a new appreciation of my newfound friend Joe Jr. I wish I could have gotten to know Joe Sr. better but he lives on through his legacy and I’ll continue to enjoy him and Mary’s kind hearts through knowing Joe and his family here in Kingwood as well as occasional fishing outings with Dale and Kenneth.
