Evelyn was born Mary Evelyn Haynes on September 6, 1918 in Brookland. She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1936 and was employed by the Jefferson Theater, The White House, and Joske’s in Beaumont. For many years she lived in the South Park area of Beaumont before moving to Port Neches and then to Orange towards the close of her life.
Evelyn will always be remembered by her family and by her children as a loving woman and a devoted mother. She was able to strike a fair balance between the demands of responsible parenting when her children were young, and their need for freedom to develop their own characters, and make their own choices, as they became older. For this, and much more, they will always be grateful.
Mother, God saw you getting tired and that a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come with me.” With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working and loving hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best. It’s lonesome here without you and we will miss you. Life just does not seem the same since you have gone away. When our days are sad and lonely and everything seems to be going wrong, we seem to hear you say “Cheer up and carry on.” Every time we see your picture, you seem to smile and say “Don’t cry, I’m in God’s keeping, we will meet again someday.”
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the Mortuary.
