Harriott Holland Ivers, 84, of Beaumont, died June 10, 2008, at her residence. A 1941 graduate of Beaumont High School, Harriott attended Gulf Park Junior College in Gulfport, Mississippi from 1941 to 1942. She returned to Beaumont and attended Lamar Junior College for a year and then transferred to University of Texas at Austin where she later graduated with a degree in Sociology. While at the University of Texas, she pledged Zeta Tau Alpha, and remained a very active alumnus in that sorority for many years.

In 1945 at the age of 21, Harriott married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. James Ivers, after dating since they were 14. During his medical residency and service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Ivers and his bride lived in Galveston, Bethesda, Dallas, and Indianapolis. Harriott was also a part owner in her family business, Holland Advertising, along with her mother Inez Holland, brother, Clarence Holland, nephew C.B. Holland, Jr. (all deceased), and sister, Willian Lee.

A long-time avid artist, Harriott was very active in a number of civic activities during her lifetime. Notably she was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she chaired the Needlepoint Committee responsible for overseeing the design and creation of the kneelers for the altar in the sanctuary. She was also a member of the Beaumont Junior League and was a regular volunteer for the annual Spindletop Charity Horseshow. Harriott was also a dedicated member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband James and oldest daughter, Willian (Bill) Markus. She is survived by her sons, Jim Ivers of San Antonio, Scott Ivers of Beaumont, and Rick Ivers and wife Barbara of Greenwich, Connecticut; daughters, Crissie Ivers of Beaumont, and Julie Bouhuys and husband Henk of Charlotte, North Carolina; sister, Willian Lee and husband Bob of Beaumont; and grandchildren, Francesca Markus, Michael Markus, Alex Ivers, Fred Duncan, Jr., Caroline Duncan, Lauren Ivers, Scott Ivers, Andrew Ivers, James Ivers, Meredith Ivers, Will Bouhuys, Peter Bouhuys, and Kate Bouhuys.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Bob Birdwell and the staff at Texas Oncology; to the team from Professional Healthcare Hospice, Melissa Lane, Catrina Cross and Sherry Moody; and to the wonderful team of healthcare professionals who were her constant companions these past few months, Sandra Collins, Peggy Garvin and Jewell Barry, for their love and dedication for our Mother.

I met Mrs. Ivers shortly after I started working for Dr. Johnson and it was always a delight to visit with her. May God bless your family at this difficult time, and give you peace and comfort.

I had the honor to meet Mrs. Ivers for the 1st time about six years ago at a party. She was such a delight to visit with !!! It turns out she grew up as one of my Dad's neighbors on Hazel St. in old town Beaumont. She said she knew my great grandmother from Marshall, TX & she knew my grandmother & both of my parents. I think she was the only person in Beaumont to know four generations of my family !!! I only met her the one time, but I have thought of her often since then, & she will never be forgotten. What a special lady !!! My deepest & heartfelt sympathy to all of the family. In His perfect love & grace, Patricia Gardner Deland
