Minnie Onethea Hickman, 82 of Winnie, died May 31, 2008 at her residence.
She was born January 10, 1926 in Crossett, AR to parents William Jackson Giddings and Dovie Alice Womack Giddings. Onethea was the youngest of three children. On July 11,1942 she married Brantley Gilliam Hickman and they had three children, Doris, Ellis and Billy. They were married for sixty-six wonderful and loving years. She graduated from Lamar State College with an LVN nursing degree in 1961 and worked several years at Baptist Hospital and retired after seventeen years with Schlesingers.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at Broussard’s Chapel with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s in Winnie. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Onethea is survived by her husband, Brantley “B G “ Hickman of Winnie; children, Doris Schkade and her husband, Glen of Groves, Ellis Hickman and his wife, Ruth, Billy Hickman; grandchildren, Michael Sterling and his wife, Gloria all of Winnie, Marlaina Brady of Pt. Arthur, Anna Ferguson and her husband, Thomas of Katy, Sabrina Meadows and her husband, Ethan of Nederland, Rebecca Hulgan of Winnie; great-grandchildren, L’Anna Sterling of Winnie, Walker Brady, Nathan Brady both of Pt. Arthur; brother, Milton Giddings and his wife, Helen of Shreveport, LA; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family members. She was preceded in death by parents, William and Dovie Giddings and brother, Ellis Giddings.
The family would like to thank the staff at Odyssey Health Care for all of their support and compassion while taking care of Onethea.
