Clara (Claire) Bloomfield passed into a better life Saturday, May 24, 2008. She was born in December 1918 in Beaumont to Concetta Giaratano and Sam Vaglica.
After graduating from St. Anthony High School in 1938, she married Preston G. Bloomfield. She had one son James Bloomfield but she "mothered" every child she came in contact with. She taught four generations of her family to pray the rosary reverently and to beat all challengers at "42". The Southeast Texas Blood Bank, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the St Anthony Ladies and Altar Society benefited from her volunteerism. If sideline coaching works thru the TV screen, she was a member of the coaching staffs of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
Her parents; husband, Preston Bloomfield; and sisters, Angela LaRocca and Celestine Richards preceded her in death. Left to mourn are son and daughter-in-law, James and Vivian Bloomfield of Kilgore, Texas; granddaughters and spouses, Jayme and Feliz Gonzalez and Ashley and Jose Gonzalez all of Garland, Texas; six great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren. Nieces and nephews of the Bloomfield, Richards and LaRocca families considered Clara a matriarch and she will be greatly missed by them, their children and grandchildren.
Since Clara was a forty year breast cancer survivor, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5144, Beaumont, Texas 77726 in lieu of flowers.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at the Mortuary.
