Thomas Anderson McManus, 88, of Wildwood died May 20, 2008 at Kountze Nursing Center. Thomas was born June 11, 1919 in Gainesville, Texas to B.A. and Bertie (Blackburn) McManus. He grew up in Eunice, Louisiana and after finishing school moved to Beaumont. In 1940, he married Mary Frances Thomas and to this union four children were born; Lynn McManus Burrell and Mark, Paul, and Drue McManus. In 1940, he started working as a machinist for Gulf Oil Company and later worked for Sun Oil Company at Amelia. When Sun relocated to Dallas, Tom transferred to Sperry-Sun in Sugarland. He took early retirement in 1972 and began his own business in Village Mills where he worked until 2000. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy at Midway Island during World War II. Tom was a charter member of Wildwood Baptist Church and an active deacon until his death. He will be remembered as a kind and loving man who loved his family, friends, and most of all, his Lord.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Mary F. McManus of Wildwood; son, Drue McManus and wife Ana of Wildwood; daughter, Lynn McManus Burrell and husband Ed of White Plains, New York; sisters, Lelia Fontenot of Eunice, Lousiana and Marion McLain of Port Arthur; five grandchildren, Blake Burrell and Bliss Fager of White Plains, New York and Kristen, Kaitlyn, and Tyler McManus of Wildwood. He was preceded in death by his sons, Mark and Paul McManus.
Funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 23, 2008 at Wildwood Baptist Church in Wildwood with Reverend Don Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Village Mills Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
