Virginia was our neighbor for many years on Avenue M in Nederland. We could have not asked for a better neighbor or nicer friend. She always had a smile or laugh. She shared many stories with us from her life, and the life she led was colorful with many interesting experiences. She told us about the various careers she had in her life, about where she had lived, about her pets, husbands, and family. One time Virginia told us she had been unable to sleep the night before, so she got up at 2 a.m. and fried some okra! She is the only person we know who ever fried okra in the middle of the night. She especially talked a lot about her children and grandchildren. It was very obvious how much she loved each one, and you could tell how proud she was of all of them. The photo posted here shows her in a red floral print, and red was definitely her color. We remember one time she was so excited, her daughter, Peggy, and her family were going to take her out to eat. Virginia came outside while she waited to be picked up. She was wearing the most beautiful red satiny shirt and had on some beautiful earrings and of course had a smile on her face. We both thought Virginia was so beautiful in her red shirt. Even though we are no longer neighbors on Avenue M, we will always remember standing outside under the oak trees, talking about whatever came to mind--including gossip about our other Avenue M neighbors--and sharing a smile and laugh with Virginia, one of the most wonderful women we've ever had the privilege to know. God Bless Virginia and all her family. We are sorry for your loss.
