Loretta Ann Walker was born on February 5, 1917 in Sugartown, Louisiana and passed away on February 12, 2008 at the age of 91 years in Beaumont, Texas with her loving family by her side.

In 1934, Loretta met and married Ted R. Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted and daughter, Glenda Walker Ryall. They were the parents of Ted G., Ronald L. and Glenda Carol Walker.

In 1946 Ted Walker left his job with Magnolia Refinery and the family moved to Newton, Texas. Ted Walker, his brother, Joe Walker and his nephew, Major Walker built and operated the Walker Lumber Company. This sawmill continues to operate today and is owned by Bill and Jimmy Walker of Newton County, Texas.

In 1954 Ted Walker ran for Jefferson County Commissioner, Precinct No. 4 and was elected. He served for twenty-two years prior to his death. County Judge Richard LeBlanc nominated Loretta to serve out the remaining term of her husband, which was unanimously approved by the Commissioners Court. Loretta became the first female commissioner in Jefferson County history.

Loretta Walker spent her life as a devoted wife and mother to her husband and their three children. While being a full time mother, Loretta obtained a Licensed Vocational Nursing Certificate as well as obtaining a Real Estate License.

She is survived by her son, Ted G. Walker and wife Mary Lou of Jasper and Ronald L. Walker and his wife Sandy of Beaumont. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward W. Corder of Vidor and Eugene T. Corder of Kirbyville.

Loretta Walker was a devout Christian and a member of the Church of Christ.
