John (Lefty) T. Martinez Jr., 80 of Nederland passed away, Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Gulf Health Care in Port Arthur.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland with Reverend Stephen McCrate officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland under the direction of Broussard’s in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at the mortuary.
Mr. Martinez was a native of Port Arthur and has lived in Nederland for the past 47 years. He retired from Texaco Island in Port Arthur in the Case Packaging Department, and was an avid sports fan. He also served his country in U.S. Air Force during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie Martinez of Nederland; daughter, Mary Wood and husband Charles of Port Neches; son Jude Martinez of Nederland, three sisters, Aurora Elizondo and husband Rudolph of Lumberton, Eloise Pregler and husband Keith of Bulverde, Nora Lopez and husband Manuel of Orange; brother, Joe Martinez and wife Kay of Scottsdale, Arizona; three grandchildren, John Wood, Jeremy Martinez, Toni Thibodeaux and her husband Bryan, one great grandchild, Jasmine Martinez, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses a Gulf Health Care and Odyssey Hospice. Special thanks for love and care to his niece Nancy Pearson and husband Mike.
