Harold Wendell Miller, 82, of Beaumont, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital Beaumont. He was born on November 23, 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Elza C. Miller and Sarah Ann Barber Miller.
He served in the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and 1944, and was discharged form Amarillo, Texas. He was a descendent of Col. William Barrett Travis who died at the Alamo. Mr. Miller worked for the United States Post Office for more than twenty-one years, for the State of Texas as a Tax Officer for three years, and then for Sigmor Corporation for more than thirteen years.
He met Ruby L. Hardt on January 16, 1949 and married her on February 18, 1949. Harold and Ruby adopted Karen Miller who was born on December 7, 1953. Karen was ten days old when she moved her residence to Harold and Ruby’s home in San Antonio and has been the joy of their life from that time. Harold accepted closeness from the Lord for his Savior on January 9, 1949 and has felt a special closeness from the date of his retirement on December 31, 1980. The life Harold and Ruby have shared has been a special close time since their retirement.
Harold served the Lord in many capacities as Youth Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and others.
Harold and Ruby never failed to give the Lord credit for their meeting and their years together which were made sweeter for their service to Him and, sweeter as the years went by.
Harold’s special request is the same as that of his wife, “Amazing Grace” because it had such special meaning for them both. Harold would ask that you take this to your own heart and live only for Him that one day he would meet Him up there. He asks that you pray for his survivors, that they might meet him there also.
He was a member of Campers on Mission who was a builder of campus and churches, and a witness for Jesus as he traveled the highways. Harold was Worshipful Master of Las Moras Masonic Lodge #444 in Brackettville, Texas, from 1992-1993, a great honor for a mason. Harold was ordained a Deacon in the Brackettville Baptist Church in May 1991. Harold and Ruby moved their membership to Baptist Temple in San Antonio in May 1996.
His son, Douglas Miller, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Ruby H. Miller of Beaumont; daughters, Karen Miller of Beaumont and Eroca Banner and her husband Kurtis of Marlin; grandchildren, Janice Stimmel of Marlin and Chris Wiedner and his wife Kelley of Lumberton, and Richard Goodridge; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
