Mother died this week. Alma Green Guerriero had a heart attack but did not suffer, nor did she linger. Death occurred on October 18, 2007. She was 94 years old.
What defines a good life? She was born in 1913, just as World War I began and was raised by prominent and kind parents in Monroe, Louisiana. She had a happy childhood. She married her one and only sweetheart, William Frederick Guerriero, as the depression began, becoming the wife of a respected gynecologist. She had one child, William Graham Guerriero, who also is a physician, and who cared for her many years as her strength left her.
There were two strong and loving women in her life, her sister, Elizabeth Powell and Margaret Guerriero, her daughter-in-law. They were the rocks upon which she stood. She lived with her sister for twenty-five years. They were known as the “ladies” by the family.
She brought happiness to those she touched but like most women of her generation, never had a career as we know it today. She was a beautiful, vibrant lady with many friends. Only one, Dorothy Dunnett of Oklahoma City, survives today.
There was fun and some sadness, as we all have in life. She had an important place in her family and good life, and we shall miss her. At death, her life was complete. Nothing more needs to be said. The family would like to say thank you to all those who brought her comfort and care. Caregivers; Celinda Esjejo, Sophia Lopez Hernandez, Blanca Aceitiy, Josefa Avila, Ina Flemings, Alice Denson, and Olga Concepcion Alvaney.
She is survived by her son, William Graham Guerriero; three grandchildren, Michael Guerriero and his wife Hilary, Margaret Ellen Nibbi and her husband Robert and Thomas Layng Guerriero and his wife Karen; eight great grandchildren, Max and Reese Guerriero, Trevor, Katrina and Teagan Nibbi, Layng, Grace and Quency Guerriero.
A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2007 at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church Chapel on Sage Road, Houston, and she is to be buried with her family in Monroe, Louisiana. No pallbearers are listed as she out-lived them all! If you wish to make a bequest, give it to your children or grandchildren as she would have done.
