Jean was born June 1, 1914 in Beaumont to Maria and Saverio Gallo, immigrants from Calabria, Italy. Jean had five siblings, all of whom predeceased her except her sister, Rose Gallo Bordonaro. On May 3, 1938 Jean married Tom Reed and together they had three children, Betty Jean, Albert and Anna Marie. Tom and Jean along with the families of her sisters and brother all lived on the same street raising their children together. They had a large close knit family.
Jean is survived by her son, Al Reed and his wife Stellina; her daughter, Anna and husband James McCuistion. She is also survived by grandchildren, Marc Reed and his wife Crystal, John Reed, Charla Reed, Eric Phelan and his wife Laurie, Jason Phelan and wife Cheryl, and Shannon Phelan Reed and husband Jarrod; as well as nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, wonderful friends and caregivers.
The family would like to especially thank Vivan Bossley, Riccki Jo Austin and Rosemary Simon. Many thanks also to the lovely “Bingo Ladies” who befriended our mother at the Arboretum and other residents and staff who showed such genuine care and concern and helped make her stay at the Arboretum feel like home away from home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2007 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the mortuary. Serving as pallbearers are Eric Phelan, Jason Phelan, Marc Reed, Johnny Vessel, Sam Brocato, and Jarrod Reed. Honorary Pallbearers are Archie Arena, John Reed, and T.K. Davis.
