Albert David Brown, born February 29, 1932, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007, in Houston after a valiant fight with cancer. Mr. Brown, virtually a lifelong resident of Beaumont, is the former owner of Beaumont Upholstery Company. The family run business was in operation for over 80 years before finally closing due to Mr. Brown’s illness. Mr. Brown was a very giving man and a devout Catholic. He lived life in his own way believing the Lord was first, family and friends second, and then himself.
Mr. Brown served his country in the U.S. Navy during Korea, served his community by serving as a board member for Monsignor Kelly High School, and served God as a longtime member, usher, minister of Holy Communion, and board member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Upon moving to Spring to be closer to family and care, Albert continued his ministry of service in The Woodlands at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church food pantry and becoming an active member of the Senior Pals Group.
Throughout his illness he was still able to enjoy travel, dining, and celebrating special events with his family. His grandchildren who always brought a special joy, love and laughter to Albert were always a source of pride in his life.
Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Brown, and his parents, Louie and Inez Brown. He is also survived by his children: Denise Brown of Spring, Colette Carson and her husband Kelley of The Woodlands, Kevin Brown and his wife Melanie of Humble, grandchildren Casey and Kathryn Carson, and Megan, Joshua, and Zachary Brown, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Hodges of Beaumont. “Papa Albert” will be sorely missed by all, and his kindness and giving will be an example for everyone he touched to emulate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2007 at St. Pius X Catholic Church followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 N Major Drive, Beaumont. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Friday evening, July 20, 2007 at the mortuary.
The family would like to thank the many friends and relatives who have offered their prayers, support, and friendship over the years. The family would also like to acknowledge the staff of M.D. Anderson and Vistas Hospice for their excellent care during the course of his treatment.
The family request memorial contributions to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, P O Box 297153, Houston, Texas 77292 in memory of Albert Brown.
