HATTIE PEARL BURNHAM KARR

Hattie Pearl Burnham Karr, 89, joined the Lord on July 11, 2007. A native of Burkeville and a resident of Beaumont for most of her life, Hattie was a member of North End Baptist Church since 1955 and a member of Mary Martha Class.

Mrs. Karr was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Lonnie “Krook” Karr; and daughters, Janet Karr Bonura and Kay Karr Mayes.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Leicht and her husband Tommy of Beaumont; sister, Billie Jones of Silsbee; grandson, Von Honsberger and his wife Stephanie and their sons, Eric and Evan of Missouri City; granddaughter, Kristen Broussard and her husband Eric and their children, Allison, Elyse, Chelsey, and Jacob of Beaumont; granddaughter, Terry Leicht and her husband Mark of Bacliff and their children Matthew, Katelyn, Justin and his daughter, Vivian; Sharon Barker and her husband Felix and their children Nicholas Barker and his wife Charissa and son, Jeremiah all of Kountze, and Chelsea Grass and her husband Michael and their son, Landon of Pearland; granddaughter, Brenda Leicht and her son, Thomas of Beaumont; grandson, Tommy Leicht, Jr. and his children, Tommy Leicht III and Christina all of Beaumont; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pearl was widely known as an expert seamstress, having taught private sewing lessons as well as lessons at Singer Sewing. She learned to sew at a very early age on an old treadle sewing machine, which she still has. She could design, fashion, and fit anything that could be made from a piece of cloth, leather, plastic, parachute material, or auto upholstery. You name it, she could sew it.

She may have been even more widely known for her cooking skill. Her pastries were never surpassed (no recipe, of course). Her coconut pies and cakes melted in your mouth.

But her very best attribute was an inner-peace that exhibited patience, love, and kindness to everyone she knew. She touched the lives of so many, and so many will miss her very very much.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007 at North End Baptist Church with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007 at the mortuary.
