Jimmie Brittain Woods, 79, of Beaumont, died in her home Tuesday, June 5, 2007 with her loving husband, Lelan, by her side.
She was born in Harbor Island on January 22, 1928. She spent much of her childhood in Center. Jimmie moved to Beaumont in 1942 where she delivered telegrams for West Union during World War II. She went on to teach dance at Jane Dickson Dance Studio. On July 3, 1947, she married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Lelan Woods.
During her years as a homemaker, Jimmie competed in Miss Senior Texas Pageant where she was named Miss Congeniality. In 1988, she opened The Book Depot on Mariposa Street, where she never met a stranger.
She found great joy in music and dance, had a love and compassion for animals and as some have said “danced to the beat of her own drummer.”
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Keith. Survivors include her husband, Lelan; daughter, Lisa Hunter; granddaughters, Lauren Johnsen and Emma Hunter; brother, Robert Brittain; nephew, Paul Padgett and his wife Wanda; dear friend, Pam Perkins, and her loving dogs, Baby and Pepe; and other loving family members.
The family is thankful for the services of Jordan Health Services and Dr. Randy Lombardo and staff. We are also grateful for the excellent care and devotion of Lisa Rios.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2007 at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of service at the Mortuary.
