Anna “2-2” Klein Hoffer, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was a diminutive woman with a giant heart and a beautiful smile. She lived a full and happy life, and left us unexpectedly on May 11, 2007.

2-2, as she was fondly known, was born in Houston, Texas to Jean and Alexander Klein on September 17, 1917. Her large family of 10 then moved to Beaumont, where she graduated from Beaumont High School. She was a woman who loved her family, her friends, her faith, and her community. She was an active member of Temple Emanuel and a leader in the Sisterhood her entire life.

2-2’s greatest love was her husband of sixty years, I. Butch Hoffer. Equally great was his love for her. They worked side by side to build a business and raise their three children, Sharon Hoffer Schwartz, Lewis Hoffer and Barbara Hoffer. She called her son-in-law, Dr. Stephen Schwartz, and her daughter-in-law, Marsha Hoffer, her children also and treated them accordingly. She was doting, special-recipe-making, open-armed “MeeMaw” to her grandchildren, Sue and Greg Schwartz, Becca and Scott Siegel, Stacey and Chris Owen, Lauren Hoffer and Haley Schwartz; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brad, Noah, Carly, and Evan. She was beloved by her sisters-in-law, June and Shirley Klein; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Butch; her four brothers, Bernard, Alec, Albert and Harold Klein; and her three sisters, Elsia Glosserman, Jean Grace Klein and Betty Klein.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2007 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, with interment following at Hebrew Rest Cemetery. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Paul Gardner, Michael Glosserman, Barry Hoffer, Bruce Hoffer, Jerry Klein, Mark Klein, Jeffry Michelson, Jon Michelson, Richard Steinhart and Ronald Steinhart.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Temple Emanuel, P.O. Box 432, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or to Some Other Place, 590 Center, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

We felt so lucky to have met your mom through the Roos family. We are thinking of you and share your loss. She was an amazing leader in Beaumont and raised a beautiful family. Her memory will be a blessing to all of us who shared the luck of knowing her.
