JOSEPH HENRY “POPPA JOE” GIVEANS, JR.
Joseph “Poppa Joe” Giveans, 63, of Beaumont died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at Harbor Hospice House.
Joe lived in New Orleans for over fifty years and music and his guitar was his life. He played with some of the most well known musicians and singers. In 1992, Joe began his relationship with God and from then on his music was about God.
When Joe and Deborah married, he became Poppa and he loved being Poppa. He loved his “babies” better than anything. Joe and Deborah moved to Beaumont in 2004 and he began teaching guitar lessons and taught over thirty students until three weeks before his death. He was a wonderful teacher to all ages and loved each student and they loved him. He loved his church, church family, and all of his wonderful friends who have checked on him daily. Joe left his mark on all he touched and will be missed so greatly. We love you “Poppa Joe”!
He is survived by his wife of 10½ years, Deborah Giveans of Beaumont; sister, Connie Laurent and her husband Arthur; brother, Keith Giveans and his wife Jenny all of Metaire, Louisiana; step daughters, Charry Jones and her husband David of Killeen, Texas and Lisa Hardin and her husband Todd of Beaumont; step son, Chuck Black of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren, Gray McDonald of Mobile, Alabama, Kalyn Hardin, and Alex Hardin both of Beaumont, Shawn Black, Molly Black, and Marlee Black all of Mobile, Alabama.
