On March 26, 2007, the world lost a great man, Daniel Alvarez, 70, of Fannett, Texas. Dan was born on June 1, 1936, in Nederland, Texas. After being an independent distributor for Borden’s Milk for thirty years, he retired in 1985. In 1994, he and his son, Randy Alvarez, and wife, Fern Alvarez, formed Alvarez Construction and built homes in Fannett and surrounding areas for approximately eight years, before he became ill.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2007, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive in Beaumont, Texas. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont. His family will receive guests at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 28, 2007, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Through 4 ½ years of illness and great suffering, our gallant husband and father fought to live and remain here with us. In his flight, he has left us, but we’ll always remember his immeasurable courage, strength, and his determination to survive and nobly win the war his body was waging. Throughout his joyful journey, he taught his entire family about love, the celebration of life, and the dance of a true warrior. Pop, we will always remember your magnetic laughter that filled the hearts of everyone who knew you. You have been an indescribable force in our lives and you have honored us with your presence. Thank you for teaching us that love is an action, not just a word. Go gently into the light…Sweet Angel.

Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife of fifty-two years, Fern Alvarez; two sons: Randy Alvarez and wife, Hollie, of Fannett; Dean Crites and wife, Mary, of Fannett; one daughter: Debbie Kinner and husband, Larry, of Fannett; eight grandchildren: Ashlyne and Caleb Havard of Fannett; Deano Crites and wife, Lori, of Lumberton; Brandy Ginsel and husband, Garrett, of Fannett; Daniel Kinner and wife, Amanda, of Alexandria, Louisiana; Amber Kinner of Houston; Chris (Bojo) Kinner of Fannett; Natalie Coburn Kinner of Houston; six great grandkids: two sisters, Lolly Almond of Fannett and Mary Maxwell of Nederland; one brother: Pete Alvarez and wife, Tessie, of Cheek, and his beloved dog, Monique.

Preceding him in death are his three sons: Daniel Alvarez, Jr., Rick Crites and Russell Lynn Alvarez; parents: William and Ramona Alvarez; one sister: Josephine Leon, seven brothers: Raymond Alvarez, Oscar Alvarez, Manuel Alvarez, Tony Alvarez, Joe Alvarez, Bill Alvarez, and Frank Alvarez.

Dear Family, Dan gave me my first real job (can't count working for my dad - Lou Guidroz owner of the Wayside). I worked Saturday's during the summer of 1969 on the Borden's milk truck, with his nephew (Dean?). It was a great summer and the memorial picture brings back some fond youthful memories. I know dad got me the job, but Dan made me feel pretty "grown up" at age 14. If I remember the minimum wage was maybe $1.25/hr and I got $15 for the mornings work. I was in "high cotton!" Again, a lot of "crazy" memories for such a short time, many years ago. Dan was a great "first boss!" My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sincerely, Paul Guidroz
