Our family and friends, they are people we take for granted everyday. Yet we would surely miss them were they called away. Like hearing the birds chirp when spring is on the way, or seeing the sun shine on a summer’s day. Or watching the leaves fall when autumn is born. Or feeling the cold on a winter morn. Our family and friends are just ordinary people, yet we would surely miss them were they called away on an ordinary day.

Ray Brannon, 67, of Vidor, died Sunday, March 18, 2007. A native of Oakdale, Louisiana and resident of Vidor most of his life, Ray was an ironworker in construction and a United States Army veteran.

His wife, Mary Brannon preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Sabrina Newton of Vidor; daughter, Audrey Brannon and her husband Jose Torres of Groveton; son, Donald J. “Bubba” Brannon and his wife Amber of Nashville, Arkansas; mother, Lillie Liles of Lumberton; brother, James Taylor Brannon of Massachusetts and Ronny Dan Brannon of Nederland; sisters, Jackie Fox, Wanda Sue Brannon and Dorothy Brannon Rogers all of Beaumont and Connie Erwin of DeQuincy, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Shaunna, Michael, Martin, Sylvina and Karley.

Private committal services were handled under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

The family asks that everyone join them at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Red Lobster, 2820 I-H 10 East, Beaumont for a time of sharing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s memory to Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704.

THE FINAL INSPECTION The Soldier stood and faced God. Which all must come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as bright as his brass. "Step forward now, you Soldier, How should I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?" The Soldier squared his shoulders and said," No, Lord. I guess I ain't Because those of us who carry guns, Can't be Saints." "I had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was tough, and sometimes I've been violent, because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep. Though I worked alot of overtime When the bills got just too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And times, God forgive me I've wept alot of tears. I know I don't deserve a place, among the people here. They never wanted me around, except to calm their fears. If you have a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected nor had too much, but if You don't I understand." There was a silence all around the Throne, Where Saints often trod, as the Soldier stood quietly for the judgement from his God. "Step forward, now, you Soldier, you've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets. You have done your time in Hell." Mr. Ray..even though our paths only crossed a few times..I am honored to have known you..
