Today we said goodbye to our sweet and gentle mother as she journeyed to meet her Lord, Our Savior. She was a homemaker for many years until she was employed by Magnolia Refining, then Mobil Chemical. After twenty-seven years of proud service she retired June 1,1993.
Mom went to school at St. Anthony Cathedral in Beaumont, graduating in the Class of ’51. Her life and ours was much sweeter because of her friendship with "The Girls of ‘51", who journeyed with Mom and us through good and bad times. This is a group of sweet, funny, and faith filled women who love life.
As a young woman, she was a member of a local USO band and was later the organist at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. We, her children, were richly blessed to hear her late at night playing the piano after we were in bed. She was a gifted pianist and loved music- a love she passed on to each of us.
Our mother was very devoted to her six children as she struggled to rear her family and work full time, many times also holding a second job.
Mom was immensely proud of her beautiful grandchildren: Michelle, Joey, Billy, Amy, Olivia, Jacquelyn, Heather, Josh, Hannah, James and great grandson Michael. Each one has shared many great times at "Grandma’s at the Lake".
Mom loved nature and gardening as attested to by her green thumb which left beautiful gardens wherever she went. We appreciate her love of gardening, which she instilled and shared with us also.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Gladys Parks Tevis and Floyd Tevis; her sons, Richard Allen "Dick" Kuritz and William Michael "Mike" Kuritz, and her sisters, Nelwyn Arena and Floy Marie "Dutta" Hayes.
Survivors include her daughters, Cecilia Gower and her husband, Will, of Orangefield and Jane Rabalais and her husband, Don, of Alvin; sons, Stephen Kuritz, of Beaumont and Jeffery Kuritz and his wife, Laura, of Baytown.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude and love to all of Mother’s friends through the years. We’re especially thankful for the sincere and constant prayers of the many people we all call friends and family.
