Berniece Edith Mazzola, 91, went to be with her heavenly father on January 11, 2007 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. She was born to Arthur and Ida Nantz McMahon on October 30, 1915 in Fields, Louisiana and was a resident of Beaumont since 1926.
Berniece was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Julian A. Mazzola; brothers, Bill, Everett, Arthur, J.T. and Johnny McMahon; and sisters, Judith Adams and Mildred Burnham. She is survived by her son, Jerry D. Mazzola of Beaumont; daughter, Jan K. Sultanik of Houston; sister, Lois Huddleston of Beaumont; granddaughter, Colleen Lewis of Houston; and nieces and nephews.
She was owner and operator of Blue Bonnett Beauty Shoppe for over fifty years. Berniece was a member of First Baptist Church for eighty years and taught Sunday school in the pre school department, one of her greatest joys for over half a century.
Berniece was a loving wife and mother. She was devoted to 'Julie' and considered being able to care for him during his illness a blessing from God. She and Daddy were always there for us and raised us with Christian values. Her talents in the kitchen were excellent. Her Sicilian spaghetti gravy and meat balls and stuffed artichokes were the best. The roast and Yorkshire pudding, chicken and dumplings and pies and cakes were fantastic. She was the total homemaker her sewing was exceptional. Mother and Daddy gave us everything.
Burkeville, Texas was a special place for our family having her sister Mildred “Big Auntie” there and mother being raised in Weirgate, it was like a second home, also the times we all had at our beach cabin were priceless.
In recent years, Berniece loved attending aerobic swimming classes at the Wellness Center were she had special friends. Thanks to everyone at the Wellness Center.
The richest blessings God bestowed on us was sending his son Jesus Christ to be our savior and being born to the best parents in the whole world.
Berniece will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Surely goodness and mercy followed her all the days of her life and now she will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Special thanks to Dr. Bertrom Brown, Dr. Leldon Sweet, Dr. Henry Williams and Dr. William Nantz, and staff for their kind compassionate care.
