Dr. W. C. Rollo, M. D.

Dr. William Calvin “Bill” Rollo, 81, of Winnie passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a lengthy illness.

Dr. Rollo was born on December 22, 1924, in Huntsville, and graduated from high school at 16. He completed his pre-med training at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville when he was 18 and finished medical school while working as a night orderly at a psychiatric hospital in Galveston. At 22, he received his medical degree from the University of Texas and he served his internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. From February to July, 1947, he worked with Beaumont surgeon Dr. L. R. Lancaster.

Four years after he opened the 12-bed Winshire Clinic, he married Delores Devillier in 1952. They were the proud parents of four sons, William Calvin, Jr., Jeffery Ellis, Robert Olide, and Thomas Keith.

Just as the Korean War wound to a close, he was inducted into the Army for a two-year stint as a doctor. He returned to his practice here in 1955. When the new hospital was built, he closed the Winshire Clinic and opened new offices here. He remained there until he retired in 1997.

Dr. Rollo is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Grace Delores Rollo; sons, Billy and wife Delores, Jeff and wife Melissa, Bobby and wife Susan, and Keith and wife Robin; grandchildren Trey, Kristen, Katie, Jes, Isaac, Isabel, Josh, and Whitney Rollo, Haylea and husband Casey Stevens; and great-granddaughter Rori Stevens.

Dr. Rollo is preceded in death by parents Effie and Thomas Rollo, brother, Tom Rollo, sisters Clair George, Monetta Brown, Lois Hall, and Francis Love, grandchildren Ashley, Zachary, and Spencer Rollo.

Dr. Rollo was a quiet, dedicated man who delivered, treated and served many of the people in this community. His daily dose of comfort-giving will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Winnie, with a graveside burial service to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Winnie. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Broussard’s in Winnie.

Pallbearers are William Calvin Rollo, Jr., Jeffery Ellis Rollo, Robert Olide Rollo, Thomas Keith Rollo, Jes Rollo, Trey Rollo and Casey Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers include Sonny Baker, Isaac Rollo and Joshua Rollo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Beaumont Chapter, 780 S. 4th Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701 or the charity of your choice.

He was such a wonderful, loving, caring, and kind person. I cannot thank him enough for all that he has done for me and my family. He may be gone but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.
