Dennis Craig Ludwig

May 11, 1960 – November 19, 2006

Dennis Craig Ludwig, 46, beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away Sunday, November 19th at his residence in Houston.

A public visitation will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2711 Helena, Nederland on Friday, December 8th, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A private family funeral service for Dennis will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 9th.

Born in Beaumont on May 11, 1960, to John and Evelyn Ludwig, he was the second of four children. Dennis grew up in Nederland and attended Kindergarten at Holy Cross Lutheran School and grade school at Trinity Lutheran School in Port Arthur. When Dennis was 13, his family moved to Ohio, and he attended Bethany Lutheran School in Parma and graduated from Brecksville High School in Brecksville in 1978. He graduated from Texas Lutheran College (now University) in Seguin in 1982 with a degree in accounting. Dennis was employed for many years with the State of Texas, first with the State Auditors Department and later with the Department of Criminal Justice as Director of Finance.

He was an accomplished pianist and served as an organist for several Lutheran churches. Dennis played the organ for many special occasions, including his sister’s wedding, and especially enjoyed accompanying his father while he sang. While in High School and College, Dennis accompanied a number of musicals, including Godspell. He lettered in Gymnastics and Tennis in High School. He also excelled at table tennis and pool, and derived much pleasure by beating his father, brothers, and any other opponents on a regular basis.

In 1999, for reasons known only to God, Dennis suffered severe medical problems including a complete breakdown, and seizures. He was under the care of medical doctors until his death. Unfortunately, he was never able to overcome his problems, and was not able to use his great talent for music and business finance again.

Dennis is survived by his parents, John and Evelyn Ludwig of Nederland; brother Kenton Ludwig of Georgetown; brother Mark Ludwig and wife Sandy of Bridge City; sister Lisa Richard and husband Art of Nederland; nephews Trey and Adam Richard of Nederland and Johnny and Ryan Ludwig of Georgetown; and a host of many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Dennis’ name to Texas Lutheran University, 1000 W. Court Street, Seguin, Texas 78155, attention: Development Department, for the piano scholarship fund.

“Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” Psalm 37:5

Pallbearers: Kenton Lyle Ludwig, Mark Alan Ludwig, Arthur Ray Richard II; Junior Pallbearers: John Edward Ludwig II, Arthur Ray Richard III, Adam Blake Richard, Ryan William Ludwig.

I knew Dennis from Trinity Lutheran. He was a very awesome guy and I always had fun with him. We were in an operetta together, something about the moon. I was terrified but Dennis helped me make it through. I remember practicing for the Christmas program with him and memorizing our lyrics to recite to Mr. Jennings. He was a wonderful guy and I know he is with our Lord now. God bless all of you.

We join with you all in deep sorrow at Dennis's sudden passing. We are heartened by God's promise that when a child is brought up to know the Lord, He will not depart from God's love and grace. While our hearts are greatly saddened, we also celebrate with the angels that another child of God has been brought home.
