He has a sister, Jo Ann Williams of Huntington and brother, Darrell Roberts of Winnie. He came from family who embraced all they met with smiles and kindness.
Edwin joined the Navy at the age of 17 during W.W. II. He was a radioman in the 1st Beach Battalion based out of North Africa. Edwin participated in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio Beach in Italy and in the Southern France Campaign. When W.W. II was over Edwin returned home.
He married Dorothy Blanchard and stayed in the Navy Reserves. When the Korean War started, Edwin was called in to service because of his specialty in communications serving on the islands of Yap and Guam. He served his country proudly for over eight years defending the freedoms of the United States of America. He was a very patriotic example to his family. He worked as a welder at Gulf Oil Refinery for over 30 years. He also taught welding at Stillwell and Lamar. He worked until he was 80 years old giving all of his children and grandchildren a great work ethic.
He was one of Santa’s best helpers. There were many joyous moments during the Holidays when he played Santa Claus for civic groups, beginning with the Fire Department of Nederland, delivering food baskets and gifts for Sertoma as Santa. With a Ho-Ho-Ho and a wink of his eye he truly was the spirit of Christmas and let all know the magic is in believing. Edwin was a giving, caring, and content man with love for all he met. He was an excellent father and a favorite uncle. Everyone should have an Uncle Edwin. He was a loving husband to Dorothy. They lived, laughed and loved each other for over 60 years.
Edwin is survived by his wife Dorothy and six children; Jody and Butch Domingue of Orangefield, Susan and Edward Seymour, Bubba and Peggy Roberts, Tommy and Shelia Roberts all of Nederland, Chuck and Cindy Roberts of Nacogdoches, Bobbi and Wayne Pratt of Wildwood. Many grandchildren and great grands… Leisha and Steve Bryant ( J.D., Jordan, and Jeep), Amberr Melo (Blake, Bailey Jo), Ed and Priscilla Seymour (Ed, Andrew, Hattie, Beau), Josh and Chrissy Seymour (Joshua, Anna, Katie, and baby to be), Jeremy and April Seymour ( Grace, Emma), Sadie Seymour, Eddie Roberts(Reese), Kurt, Kyle, and Timmy Roberts, Christopher and Joleen Weatherly ( Austin, Kirstyn, Christian), Crystal and Eddie Meeker, T.J. Edwin was much loved by his family, numerous nieces and nephews. He was honored and loved by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a most favored cousin… He will be missed, loved, remembered… forever and a day. He was blessed by God, not with great wealth, but when you looked at him through God’s eyes and saw his youthful obedience to defend his country, the wife God blessed him with and the children he was so proud of… He could not and did not ask for more.
His light will continue to shine through his family… his family is an example for all to see… Psalm 127:3; Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is his reward.” His smile would light up a room. The wink from his sparkling blue eyes and dimples would melt our mother’s heart, most of all he was a husband to Dorothy…and he was our daddy… love you Pop’s… We’ll see you in the spring.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Ed, Josh, Jeremy Seymour, Eddie Roberts, T.J. Roberts, Chase Roberts, Danny, Justin Pratt, Honorary Pallbearers, Kurt, Kyle, Timmy Roberts, Terry Roberts, and Christopher Weatherly.
