Rosemary Layton, 82, of Beaumont, died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the Medical Center of Arlington.
She was a native of Denison and raised in Ennis before moving to Beaumont.
Anyone who met Rosemary quickly learned she was the epitome of compassion and caring. She gave of herself so unselfishly to others. She was devoted to the care of her family and anyone in need. She dedicated her life to her husband, especially her two daughters as well as her grandchildren. Rosemary taught so much to others through her example of devotion, patience and perseverance while still maintaining her wonderful sense of humor through any crisis. She was a nurse from the days of surgery at three Beaumont hospitals, Hotel Dieu, St. Therese and St. Elizabeth as well as for all the children in need in her twenty-five years of service as a school nurse with Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District. Rosemary tirelessly procured help for the most needy of children well beyond the normal school day. Even in her Alzheimer’s state she was determined to be “on call” for helping the person next to her in need. She truly lived life by her good example and is a jewel worthy of any crown in heaven. Many times when told what an enrichment she’d made in every one’s life and how lucky we were to call her Mom, MayMay, and friend, she would typically and humbly reply, “No you got that backwards, I’m the lucky one.” Those were also her last spoken words.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Maxon Layton.
Rosemary is survived by her daughters, Margaret Sample and her husband Don and Sassy Kerr all of Beaumont; four grandchildren, Doug Soper and his wife Sondra of Beaumont, Holly Gallegos and her husband Ben of Arlington, Steve Sample and his wife Michelle of Spring and Randy Sample of Beaumont; seven great grandchildren, Peyton Soper, Taryn Soper, Benjamin Gallegos, Todd Gallegos, Amanda Ferguson, Haley Ferguson and Caden Sample.
