Gene Paul Landry, 69, of Lumberton passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006 at his home after a twenty-six year courageous battle with cancer.
Gene Paul had a love of life that was stronger than any illness. He was often called “Miracle Man” at MD Anderson because of his strong will. Gene Paul loved automobiles! Anyone that knew him knew not to come to his house with a dirty vehicle. He even detailed his riding lawn mower and armour alled the tires!
Gene Paul, Linda and both daughters all rode horses and competed in many horse shows and all had many trophies and ribbons to show for their efforts. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan even when they weren’t doing well; he was still a staunch supporter. Anytime there was a party or Mardi Gras Festival with Wayne Toups or Cajun Music, Gene Paul could always be found center stage.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1957, and served in the Army Reserves. Gene Paul and Linda were happily married for forty-five years.
Gene Paul is also survived by his two daughters, Jeannie and Julie. His three grandchildren were his pride and joy. They will forever remember their “Paw Paw” as a strong and brave role model. His legacy will live on through them.
Gene Paul never met a stranger. He knew everyone and could tell you a little about everything. He was always ready at the drop of the hat to go anywhere. If someone was traveling, he had his bags packed. It didn’t matter where they were going, he was not going to be left behind.
Gene Paul is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Jeannie Bando and her husband Alex of Beaumont, and Julie Atkins and her husband Jerry Don of Lumberton; grandchildren, Ashley and Trevor Reed of Beaumont and Shelby Atkins of Lumberton; sisters, Shirley Brau of Bridge City and Kathy Quota of Dallas; and four nephews.
The family wants to send special thanks to lifelong friends, Lowell Angelle and his family, and Ed Webb, and to the congregation of Woodcrest United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin followed by entombment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of his family and friends will be Tuesday evening, October 24, 2006 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodcrest United Methodist Church, 1684 Hwy. 96 South, Lumberton, Texas 77657 or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 297153, Houston, Texas.
