Opal Memaw Gates, 85, of Kountze, Texas, was born February 11, 1921 in Edna, Texas to Eugene and Annie Green. She passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 surrounded by her loving family.
She is preceded in death by Joe E. Gates and W. L. Alford; sister: Irene Whitworth and brother Billy Green.
Survivors include her children: William E. Gates and his wife Sandra of Mount Grove, Mo., JoAnn Whisenhant and her husband Gene of Kountze, Tx. Linda Bumstead and her husband Edward of Kountze, TX.; brothers: E. E. Green of Bay City, Tx.; sisters: Lucille Lee of Alvin, TX., Mildred Henderson of Hot Springs, AK and Lillie M. Pierce of Palacious, TX; 8 grandchildren: Lindsey Whisenhant, Wally Whisenhant, Leslie Whisenhant, Wayland Whisenhant, Joe Bumstead, Gene Bumstead, Shannon French and Michelle Lollar and 13 great grandchildren.
Memaw was a caring and loving woman who was very family oriented and is loved by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Broussard’s Chapel, 530 W. Monroe, Kountze, Texas 77625 with burial to follow at Holland Cemetery, Kountze, Texas. A gathering of family and friends will be today from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. also at the mortuary.
