Dr. John P. Crawford, born in Kentucky, transplanted to Texas, made the transition to the other side on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-five years, Nancy; his children, Johnny, Kathy and Christy; brothers and sister, Bill, Charles and Nellie, and many others whose lives he touched.
We will miss him, but he will always be in our hearts. Wherever John was, his life was an example of quiet dedication to serving others: in his work as an optometrist at Texas State Optical, Orange, through his support of community organizations, and of course by sharing his many gifts and talents with family and friends.
A lifelong photographer, he originally used traditional methods in his darkroom, but adapted quickly to digital techniques (which provided another outlet for his mischievous sense of humor). As a bee-keeper, he supplied many with local honey. He kept active by square dancing with Nancy (that’s right, he was a smooooth square dancer) and he also enjoyed evenings at the theatre, in the front row or even backstage. He took pleasure in sitting on the porch at home, as well as traveling, whether in Europe, on a cruise, or to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. (For some reason, he seemed to prefer a nice bed and breakfast to a tent). Always along the way, he placed a high value on other people; many of his deeds are known only to those whom he helped. John has given us so many memories to treasure; if you would like to share your memories with the family, you are welcome to write something in the book at the memorial service or to speak a few words.
A memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were handled by Broussard’s.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crawford-Lewis Scholarship, in the Computer Science Department, Lamar University, and P.O. Box 10056, Beaumont, Texas 77710.
