Marcelina “Chelina” Godina, 68, of Lumberton, found her way to the heavenly gates of God’s Kingdom on Monday, October 2, 2006 after suffering a long illness. She was born and raised in Beaumont, and had lived in her dream retirement home in Lumberton for the past seven years.
She attended St. Anthony High School and was a very active member of her church Cristo Rey until her illness. Our Mom was in LULAC, an Alter Society member and will be remembered as a Friday night “Bingo” participant. Chelina was also named Wife of the Year for Texas Army National Guard Women’s Association
Chelina was born on April 26, 1938 and is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Enrique “Henry” Godina; five children, Frank Godina and his wife Loretta, Anna Saldana and her husband Albert, Juanita Domingue and her husband Jesse, Ernie Godina and his wife Mary, and Anthony Godina. Chelina was also blessed with raising Manuel Godina-that she thought of him as her own.
Chelina loved her family and was most comfortable when her five children, thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren surrounded her with their love and stories of life, school, boyfriends and girlfriends, work and anything else a matriarch of a family took time for-even in her last days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006 at Cristo Rey Catholic Church with burial to follow at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at the Mortuary.
The family would like to thank Dr. J.P. Remirez and the 4th floor nursing staff at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth for their professional and personal care-over the last three weeks. Also special thanks needs to be given for the wonderful care given to her over the last four years by Mrs. Linda Thomas-her personal care provider.
