Dolly Mildred Irene Applewhite Craig of Beaumont, died September 15, 2006.

Mrs. Craig was born September 26, 1911, in San Antonio, Texas, to Sidney Wallace and Katie K. Applewhite.

She met Carter Marion Craig while they were both working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co and married on April 23, 1932, in New Braunfels, Texas. Dolly lived in many Texas towns during her husband’s career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co before settling in Beaumont in the early 1940’s. Both Mr. and Mrs. Craig were recognized and honored as Pioneers of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Dolly was a full time wife and mother who approached life with unquenchable enthusiasm. She enjoyed playing bridge, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, joining the family Easter egg hunts, and knowing what everyone was doing. She had one son, Carter Marion Craig, Jr., who preceded her in death. After her son’s death, Dolly devoted her life to the charitable activities of the Masonic Lodge Shriners and Eastern Star, especially the Children’s Hospital in Galveston, and Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one nephew, Sidney Wallace Applewhite III; two nieces, Katie June Stancil and Margy Pearl McDonald; and great nephews, great nieces, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carter Marion Craig; her son, Carter Marion Craig, Jr.; one brother; and three sisters.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
