Mrs. Bernice McDermand died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at her home in Sour Lake, Texas. She was 97 years old, having been born on September 9, 1908 in Orange, Texas to the late Calvin Peveto and Lula Peco Peveto.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Milton McDermand of China, Nome, Sour Lake and San Antonio. Mrs. McDermand is survived by son, Bill McDermand and daughter, Mary Ann Scarborough, both of Sour Lake; one sister, Mrs. Eva Jane Dowdy of Pleasanton; one sister in law, Mrs. Pauline McDermand of Nome; grandsons, Troy Crain of Boerne and Scott Scarborough of Pleasanton; grand daughters, Tammy Grube of Surfside and Melanie Wells of Pleasanton; as well as ten great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive. A service of thanksgiving of her life will be on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 11:00 AM in Broussard’s Mortuary Chapel, with burial following at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont.
