Odus Moorman, 73, of Beaumont, Texas died August 7, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Odus was born August 22, 1932, in Gorman, Texas to Dean Moorman and Harriett Sowers Moorman. He attended high school in Graham, Texas and graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton. He was proud to have been accepted to the prestigious Mayo Foundation Health Science Center, School of Physical Therapy in Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated in 1956 as President of his class and continued his graduate studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He served as Director of Physical Therapy, Anderson Orthopedic Clinic, in Alexandera, Virginia as well as Director of Physical Therapy at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas for over twenty-six years. Odus then entered into private practice of Physical Therapy establishing Moorman and Associates, Physical Therapists, in Beaumont until his retirement in 1997.

Odus was faithful member of First Baptist Church, Beaumont for twelve years, Cathedral in the Pines Christian Center, Beaumont for six years, and the Trinity United Methodist Church, Beaumont for twenty-three years. In recent years he felt the call to minister to the “Men in White” at Mark W. Stiles Maximum Security Prison in Beaumont, Texas. This became the main ministry focus of his life, to see men, mostly overlooked by society, but not by God, find new life in Jesus Christ.

Odus married his college sweetheart Bonita Boyd over fifty-two years ago. The Lord blessed their marriage with three wonderful children and ten grandchildren that rapidly became the apple of his eye.

He is survived by his wife Bonita, of Beaumont; daughter, Karen Lewis of Austin, Texas;

sons, James Dean and his wife Donna of Richardson, Texas and Craig Scott and his wife Jane of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren include Eric and Paige Pampe of Austin, Texas, Callie, Rachel, Meredith and Camille Moorman of McKinney, Texas.

A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Broussard’s 1605 N. on Major Drive in Beaumont from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The celebration of his life will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be Saturday, August 12, 2006 in Sipe Springs, Comanche County, Texas in a country cemetery near the land his great grandfather homesteaded in 1879.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kairos of Texas (Pirson Ministry), 4000 Southpark Drive, Suite 1100, Tyler Texas, 75703.

The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the staff of Dr. Robert Birdwell, Texas Oncology Center of Beaumont and the staff of Professional Healthcare Hospice of Beaumont. A special thanks to Joyce Tatum for her care and support during this time.

I just learned of Mr. Moorman's death. What wonderful memories I have of the family from growing up at FBC. He was an example to all of us. I understand his love for Kairos, having worked in this ministry myself. My prayers continue with the family as you adjust to life without him. Cherish your memories and rejoice that he has found healing.
