Long time Beaumont resident, Nancy Lampson passed away peacefully on June 6, 2004, after a lifetime of devotion to her family and community. She was born March 9, 1910 in Navasota, Texas to Italian immigrants, James Jack and Frances Lamonico Jebbia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Lampson, her mother and father, and eight siblings.

Nancy is survived by her six children and their spouses: JJ and Janet Lampson of Grass Valley, California; Jimmy and Nomy Lampson of Vidor, Texas; Mary Jo and Bob Ford of Beaumont, Texas; Dr. Gene Lampson and Shively of Lake Charles, Louisiana; Congressman Nick Lampson and Susan of Beaumont, Texas; and Frances and Robert Breaux of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Nancy’s greatest accomplishment and source of pride came from her children, 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Mary Godell of Stafford, Texas and Josephine Newberry of Abilene, Texas and one brother, Nick Jebbia of Missouri City, Texas.

She and her husband, Julius, settled in Beaumont in 1933. By her actions she instilled the same qualities in her children that she received from her parents – hard work, persistence, and determination. In her later years, with her family always in mind, she became involved in church and community activities. She demonstrated that we should give something back to the community from which we have taken so much. She devoted years of service to the Catholic Church as a member of the Catholic Daughters Association, The Ladies Altar Society, and St. Jude’s Joy Group. Her years of service to Beaumont include involvement in the Beaumont Professional Women’s Club, Beaumont Civic Opera Buffs, Beaumont Symphony Women’s League, Business Women’s Association, Beaumont Heritage Society, and South East Texas Art Museum. She was the recipient of the Good Neighbor Award, a proclamation from the City of Beaumont with the Key to the City, as well as an Honoris Causa Diploma from Lamar University.

She is best known for her bread baking skills and intricate and artistic cookies. Nancy was eternally optimistic, totally supportive of her children, always finding the best in others, and had the respect of her friends and affection of her family. Nancy was an inspiration to everyone whose lives she touched. We all love her and will miss her dearly.
