MYRA LEA SOPER

Myra Soper was born on August 20th, 1950 in Tomball, TX and passed from this life on May 26th, 2006 in Mission Hills, CA after 55 years of a lifetime filled with caring about others.

She leaves her husband, Gene Soper, of Agua Dulce, CA, a daughter, Diana Land of Beaumont, TX; a stepson, Doug Soper, wife Sondra and grandchildren Peyton and Taryn Soper of Beaumont, TX; a stepdaughter, Holly Gallegos, husband Ben and grandchildren Benjamin and Todd Gallegos of Arlington, TX; her mother, Mary Ward and husband Claude of Winnie, TX; a brother, Dallas Burgess and wife Debbie of Winnie, TX; and sisters, Jackie Pratt and husband Ronny of Judsonia, AR and Marilyn Holt of Winnie, TX; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Jack Burgess of Hampton, AR and her son Jeff Jones of Winnie, TX.

It is always difficult for others to recount the circumstances, caliber, and quality of a life once that life’s journey has been finished, but without exception, Myra touched everyone she knew with joy and a smile. No one ever came to her home and found her door closed to them, and neither was her heart. She never cared about someone’s station in life, only if she could help them through some difficulty, and did so at every opportunity. Some of her happiest times came from having friends over, and by doing so, helped them share each other’s lives. During the time of her hospital indurations with the Leukemia that ultimately ended her stay with us, she never failed to greet someone entering her hospital room with a smile. In those five weeks, Myra demonstrated such strength, courage, and grace that later the comment was made, “She showed all the rest of us how it should be done”. She met her husband Gene while she was a bookkeeper at M&J Fertilizer in Winnie, when he was a pilot at M&M Air Service, and there began a love that lasted for twenty five years, until she was called home. Myra can no longer be with us here, but her wish would be not to grieve for her, but give thanks for the blessings that we all had from her time here with us, and the happiness that we all shared together. What an incredible ride.

Godspeed, love. Fly free. We will see each other again.

Myra sends love.

My big sister, my hero. Thanksgiving has come and gone again without you. I managed to pull it off again, carrying you in my heart. I am so glad you are my sister. I am having one of those days with decisions to make, and needing your advice. Hoping i make the right choice, and that you have a hand in it. I will treasure the last time when we spoke to each other, and do believe everything you told me. I have not had a single day go by without thinking of you, nor will i ever. I will always carry you with me in my heart. Love you sis Marilyn

Gene and Diana, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Myra was a great lady and at one time acted as a "second" mom to me. She will be missed! May your fondest memories bring you the peace and comfort Myra would wish for you. God Bless you and your family, Cindy Pyka Bertrand
