Joyce Boyett King, 80, of Nederland, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the Pointe in Webster, Tx after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and complications of evacuating from Rita.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland with Rev. David Higgs officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the mortuary.

Joyce was born on the first day of spring, March 20, 1926 and went to be with the Lord on April 4th her mother’s birthday. When her children were in school she followed the football teams and the bands wherever they went. She made “Crying towels” for Bulldog opponents. Along with her late husband, Alfred Dalton King, she was a fisherman. Joyce was known for the garden she grew and she gave vegetables away freely and always had plenty. She also loved to bake cakes and give them away, as many as six in one day. She was an award winning baker having won a gas stove and a full silver service. She also maked a 10’X 12’ canvas tent for family camping on her dressmaker sewing machine. She did lots of volunteer work, chairing blood drives for many years and volunteered many hours at the Three Rivers Council Boy Scouts of America helping with mailings. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at First Baptist Church in Nederland.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, A.D. King, her parents, John Hardy and Bertha Mae Boyett, her sisters Fleda Rice, Margie Pedigo and Merline Larkins and her brother Jay Boyett. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Frank & Linda King of Arcadia, Fred and Sandy King of Clear Lake, daughter Peggy King of Nederland, her grandchildren, Natalie and Jeff Whatley of Baytown, Zac and Melanie King of Baytown, Gene Shepler of Houston, Julie and Ricky Vaughn of Baycliff and Cathleen and Brian Sainz of Jamaica Beach.
