Elbert Brownrigg Taylor
Brownrigg Taylor died peacefully in his home on February 25, 2006, following a brave and noble battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-eight years, Ann Templeton Taylor. He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Taylor Hyde of Beaumont and Lynn Taylor Moor of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and by his three grandchildren, Cassie Hyde, Cristin Moor, and Annie Moor.
Brownie, as he was lovingly known, was a native and lifelong resident of Beaumont. He attended Beaumont High School, where he was a star athlete. He attended Texas A&M and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. He was proud to serve in the Air Force during the Korean War. Brownie served his community throughout his professional life, first during his work at Beaumont State Bank and then as stockbroker at EF Hutton, where he was Manager until he retired in 1999.
Service to others was a constant theme throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a constant source of strength to his family – their “Rock” – loving them unconditionally and always putting their needs ahead of his own. He was actively involved in a number of local service organizations, including Some Other Place, the HOW center, Jefferson County Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and the Tyrrell Historical Library. His loving and selfless nature touched and enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Brownie was a strong, gentle, kind and spiritual athletic man who took great pleasure in the simple things of life: attending his grandchildren’s plays and games; taking his daily walk down Gladys; driving in the country to see the bluebonnets bloom; searching for the best hamburger in town. Helping others was his greatest joy, and he searched daily for ways to do this.
The family would like to thank Brownie’s many friends for their outpouring of love and prayers during his illness. They would specifically like to express their deepest gratitude to Catherine Armstrong for the light, love and joy that she brought to Brownie during the final year of his life.
A gathering honoring Brownie will be in the Cloister Room at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church from 10:30 a.m. until noon on Thursday, March 2, 2006 followed by a memorial service at noon. Arrangements are under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 N Major Drive, Beaumont.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Some Other Place, P O Box 843, Beaumont, Texas 77704 or the charity of your choice is appreciated.
