Charles Edward Doss

Charles Edward Doss died on February 21, 2006 at the age of 67 at his home in Beaumont after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ed was a resident of Beaumont, Texas, and a native of Hamburg, Arkansas. He spent much of his life in Amite, Louisiana, where he met his wife and raised his children. He was President of Batson Mill in Batson, Texas. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a deacon at North End Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana.

He is survived by his wife, Penney Davis Doss; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Anne Mary Doss of Madisonville, Louisiana, and Scott and Tiffany Doss of Beaumont, Texas; and one daughter, Trisha Doss of New York, New York; his loving grandchildren Julie, Jennifer, Bailey, and Trevor; his mother, Frankie Roberts Doss; two brothers, Hugh Doss and his wife, Kaye, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Terry Doss and his wife, Barbara, of Augusta, Georgia; two sisters, Brenda Doss Bankston and her husband, Lyndell, of Orange Park, Florida, and Betty Doss Blount and her husband, Steve, of Walker, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Clifton Doss.

Ed was a great husband, father, and role model. He did a wonderful job of balancing his dedication to his job with his love and devotion to God and family. In addition to spending time with his children and grandchildren, he also enjoyed spending time with what he and Penney called their beloved “adopted” grandchildren. He was also a very compassionate man who spent a great deal of time helping others. He had a zest for life, with a great sense of humor and a hearty laugh that would light up a room and bring joy to all around him.

Pallbearers will be: Paul Miles, Roy Huckaby, Marshall Rowe, Clayton Weeks, Tim Cauthen, and Rodney Sheffield. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews: Mike Davis, Brad Davis, Keith Thompson, David Davis, Kevin Bankston, Bryan Blount, Troy Goynes, Eric Crain, and Matthew Doss.

His family wishes to thank Joe Penland, Sr., Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Kong, The American Cancer Society, Hospice of Texas, his caregivers, friends and neighbors, for all of their prayers and assistance. Special thanks go to Mr. Jim Cole, Mr. Tom Balantine and the entire Newpark Resources organization.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, February 24, 2006 at North End Baptist Church under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, February 23, 2006, from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the mortuary.
