At the age of fourteen he became an apprentice barber and at the age of sixteen, he was the youngest journeyman barber in Texas. In the forty years before retirement, he and his late wife Margaret Arlene Meredith Colvin trained myriad students.

He entertained us with his wonderful stories. He often drove to The Cut on Bolivar Peninsula or to the Jetty's at Sabine Lake to cast his line and enjoy the day chatting with his fishing buddies. Owning a walking stick hand carved by Mr. Lonnie is a much sought after prize. Working in his garden with his roses brought him much pleasure. He loved his family, his dogs, and his friends.
