Walker Sistrunk was my uncle. My dad is William Allen Sistrunk. Uncle Walker was a wonderful man for whom I alway enjoyed visiting in Buna with my parents. It seems like we visited all of my aunts and uncles at least every year or two. Uncle Walker was retired by the time I really grew to know him and I was amazed at his farming abilities. He raised his own hogs and kept the Sistrunk Sausage recipe alive. That was some of the best sausage I've ever had. He had a huge garden alongside his property and like Dad, grew many vegetables to feed his family. He was a serious and imposing man and resembled his father (my grandfather who died before I was born). He lead an exemplary life and had 40 long years of service with Texaco as an "oil man". His wife Pat who preceded him in death by about 20 years or so, was a wonderful woman and they both were very hospitable and opened their home to us when we came to visit. I still have fond memories of swinging on their porch swing on the screened in patio of the Buna, Texas house they owned. I remember that Uncle Walker loved cheese and would normally slice off a big hunk of cheese to eat with dinner. They would also fix up huge "log rolling" meals when we visited. We never went away hungry.
