Burke Anthony Schreve, 85, passed away on January 7, 2006 at a private nursing facility. Mr. Schreve was a native of Beaumont, and had lived in Fannett for the past fourteen years. He worked in housing construction, was a small business owner, and was a city chief building inspector for the City of Beaumont before retirement. Burke served in the United States Navy during World War II on the destroyer, U.S.S. Quick, and was Chief Boatswain Mate.
Born on June 3, 1920, he lived his life without creating one single enemy. He was loved by all who knew him, but most of all by his family who adored him. He had a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone laugh, a high standard of integrity, and a work ethic matched by very few. Mr. Schreve graduated from St. Anthony’s High School in 1940, and was a lifelong Catholic. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he and Joanna Henley were joined in marriage by Monsignor Kelly. He was heavily involved in Scouting in the 1950’s at Assumption Catholic School, was instrumental in the building of the parish, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus at Assumption.
Burke is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Joanna; daughter, Bonnie Joann Vessel of Beaumont; grandchildren, Amanda Foust and husband Matt of Beaumont; John Anthony Vessel at the University of North Texas in Denton; sister, Brucelle Foret of Kountze; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Orley Schreve; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Schreve; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Henrietta.
