I admire Deane for the true mother she was. When I think of her, love, laughter, and lessons come to my mind. Love, because she so freely gave love to everyone. Her love was expressed in everything she did. Her sewing was finer than anything you could buy at a store, and I don't think there was anything she couldn't cook. Martha Stewart had nothing on her! Laughter, because she encouraged fun and laughter. She was never too busy to play with a child, and she passed on her great sense of humor to each of her children. What a wonderful gift she gave them, to enjoy life! And lessons, because she was always willing to teach others, be it reading with her grandchildren, to the fine art of making REAL gumbo. Yes, Deane was a great mother and she loved being a mother to all. My heart felt sympathy goes out to her family and they are in my prayers.

I thank God for and will always cherish the relationship I had with Deane. From the time I was 15 and estranged from my mother, Deane was a strong maternal influence in my life. She taught me a lot and I am forever grateful for her guidance. My two beautiful daughters and my granddaughter represent a continuation of her life. Without her they would not be. She was a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother and friend. I will miss her. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the entire family. I pray that God's love and mercy will support you through your grief.
