Hazel Ione (Kirk) Busbee, 96, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2005 at her home in Beaumont after returning the day before from Little Rock, Arkansas due to the mandatory evacuation caused by Hurricane Rita.

Hazel had lived in Beaumont all her life and was a homemaker. She had been a former PBX operator at the Beaumont Enterprise before the birth of her children and at Lamb Printing, Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth, Lamar University and Gus Mayer after the death of her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Monroe Busbee; her son, Monroe Cooper Busbee; parents, Bronson Cooper, Sr. and Laura Belle (Perryman) Kirk; brothers, Claude David Kirk, Carl Kirk and Bronson Cooper Kirk, Jr.; sisters, Mittie (Kirk) Caldwell and Helen (Kirk) Ickles. She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Busbee) Lester and her husband Walter of Beaumont; grandsons, Kirk Lee Lester and his wife Tina of Buna and Kyle Ray Lester of Beaumont; great grandson, Jonathan Kirk Lester of Buna; sister-in-law, Ruth Tindall of Nome; and several nieces, nephews and a couple of life long friends, Grace Gardener and Ann Betsell. She is also survived by her dog, Joy, who was real happy to see her and Janice home.

A graveside service will be 2:00 P. M. Monday, October 24, 2005 at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.

Due to the upheaval of Hurricane Rita, the family respectfully request that personal home visits and condolences be made at a later date.

The family would also like to say a very special thanks to her niece, Mrs. Betty Ricks for contacting the Hospiceopf Southeast Texas just one week before the storm and all the magnificent workers we met along the way, both up and back from Little Rock, Arkansas. The nurses and staff at Hospice of Arkansas in Little Rock at St. Vincent Hospital treated her and Janice like queens, and the residence of Little Rock were super. If we had to go anywhere, thank God we were sent there.
