Mike Sparks, 59 of Fannett went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, surrounded by his family at The University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center after a three year battle with cancer.
Mike was born June 19, 1946, in Silsbee, Texas, and graduated from Kountze High School in 1964. Mike served his country as a medic in the United States Army in Vietnam. A former resident of Beaumont, he lived in Fannett for the last fourteen years. Mike’s career was always in construction and he worked at BoMac Contractors since 1991.
The Lord saved him at the age of 30. He had a servant’s heart. Mike served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher and was ordained as a deacon in 1996 at First Baptist Church of Fannett.
At work he was known as Mr. Sparks, to his Christian friends he was Bro. Mike, but to his family he was Honey, Dad, and PawPaw. Those were the names he treasured most. He and his wife Gwen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past February. His favorite times were spent with Gwen, playing with his grandkids and getting together with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gwen Sparks of Fannett; son, Michael W. Sparks, Jr. of Beaumont; daughters, Kimberly Jones and her husband Clay of Beaumont and Jennifer Lowrance and her husband Kevin of Beaumont; parents, Albert “Junior” Sparks of Seguin and Gwen Smethers of Fannett; brother, E.G.
