Mr. M. L. Vivrett, Jr. passed away at 86 on August 7, 2005 due to natural causes after a long, full life. M.L. was born in Waco TX in 1918, attended Waco public schools and was a 1948 graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station TX., and was a resident of Beaumont since 1963.

Mr. Vivrett served in the U.S Army for 6 years during WWII and was in the Army Reserve for 21 years. Upon retirement he had attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. He worked for Gulf Oil Corporation in sales and marketing positions for 32 years and retired in 1982.

Mr. Vivrett was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church and the Beaumont Aggie Club. Prior to his death, he was the oldest living Aggie in Beaumont, and was a Mason and member of the El Mina Temple.

Mr. Vivrett was married for 49 years to his life long love Merle McGowen Vivrett who preceded him in death in 1998.

For those who knew and loved M.L, he will be greatly missed. He was a lover of life, always quick with a joke and a smile, and a source of strength and support for all of those in his life. In his later years, he attended numerous former student events known as Aggie Hostels at his alma mater, A&M. Through his involvement, he passed along his enthusiasm, joy, and pride in the traditions that are Texas A&M. After his wife, children, grandchildren and friends, being an Aggie was the most cherished aspect of his long life.

M.L. is survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Collier of Bryan TX; his children, Mac and wife Ruth Vivrett of Dallas TX, Jarrell Vivrett of Beaumont TX, and Marilyn Terry of Sour Lake TX; his grandchildren, Lindsay and Wesley Pullin, John and Katie Vivrett, all of Beaumont TX. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, great and great, great nieces and nephews. He loved them all.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at Trinity United Methodist Church under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive followed by a burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday evening, August 9, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.

M.L. Vivrett, Jr. will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him. He was a positive and spiritual influence on all those he touched with his gentle humor, kind words, and zest for living.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his name to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont TX or Beaumont A&M Club, P.O. Box 12161, Beaumont, Texas 77726.

I met Mr. Vivrett in Beaumont when I was trying to get hired by Gulf. He was certainly a big help and supported me with both advice and comfort during those weeks. I was finally hired and transferred to Tusla. I never worked for Mr. Vivrett, but his influence still continues. I will always be thankful for his help. May God comfort you all during this tough time. Life for many was better because of him.

M.L. was one in a million. So sorry to hear of his death. May God bless you all in your time of sorrow. He touched many Gulf lives in his time and was always ready to help a young salesman succeed. He'll be missed by all who knew him.
