Glen Eldon Barton, 93, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005.
A native of Stilson, Liberty County, Texas, he had lived in Beaumont all of his life. His family moved to South Park in Beaumont, Texas where he was raised and graduated from South Park High School and South Park Junior College. He continued to live in the South Park area all his life.
He was very much the outdoorsman, raising cattle and horses. Duck hunting with his well-trained dogs, fishing and shrimping at Port Bolivar where he owned a beach house for over fifty years.
Glen was an avid baseball fan. Up until just a few years ago, he went to every Lamar game, knew all the players by name and enjoyed so much watching them play. He started his baseball career with Gulf Pipeline playing centerfield and cleanup hitter playing for the Pipeliner’s, a semi pro team owned by the Oil Company. Glen was highly recruited by the scouts and played many years with the Beaumont Exporters, New Iberia, Evangeline League and others. But the steady job with security kept him from pursuing a career and he made the decision to stay with Gulf and continued playing semi pro ball until the late 1940’s. Glen was also a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church.
