Henry Grady McElwee, Jr. of Port Arthur passed away, Saturday, June 5, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Henry was born August 18, 1929 in Port Arthur, Texas, the oldest of six children born to Captain and Mrs. H. G. McElwee, Sr., deceased.

Henry, a veteran, served his country stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After returning to the U. S. in the 50’s, he worked for the City of Houston while attending South Texas College of Law. He changed his career path from law to engineering/construction of high-rise buildings and was based on the West Coast. He worked as project manager on multi-million dollar projects from coast to coast until his retirement and his return home to Port Arthur in 1986.

Henry’s primary interest in retirement were his family, playing golf at the Babe Zaharious Golf Club and socializing with his many old friends and golfing partners. He embraced the Apostolic Faith.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jerry and sisters, Jessie Pearl and Susie Mae. He is survived by his sisters, Helen G. McElwee Broussard of Lafayette, Louisiana and Maude Anna McElwee Doyle and husband Harry of Port Arthur; and brother, Jim McElwee and wife Shirley of Pearland, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Following cremation at the request of the deceased, a brief memorial service will be held at Broussard’s Mortuary in Nederland at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2004 with Pastor S. D. Schwing officiating.
