Alpha was known throughout the Golden Triangle as a woman of great and many talents. Her entire life was one of giving and service to everyone around her. A woman of enormous talents who made draperies, bedspreads, antique lampshades, upholstered furniture, painted ceramics, crocheted doilies, rugs, potholders and was an award winning artist and member of a championship bowling team. As the “Golden Triangle Queen of Gumbo” she saw to it that everyone had plenty to eat whether it was at home, in her restaurant or grocery store. While she served her community in so many ways her church and family were the center of her life. A member of the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of St. Mary’s Parish she served in almost every church function in her parish, whether it was cooking, serving or cleaning up. She also used her great talents to make the Confessional drapes and the gorgeous altar linens at the original St. Mary’s in Hamshire. Her family and friends were grateful recipients of her great cooking and sewing talents always making sure it was absolutely perfect as she ripped and re-ripped seams until they were perfect just as the lampshades for the Phelan House in Beaumont were. Her Christ likeness was seen in her constant serving and in her giving. She was always quick to give what ever she received to someone else so that they would be blessed. A giver and servant she sought to show the love and saving grace of Christ in all she did.
Alpha is survived by her son, Jerald Broussard and wife Cathy of Kingwood; daughter, Patricia Ann Potter and husband Dale of Boling; sisters, Bertha Bergeron, Ella Landry, Hilda Melanson Newton and Evelyn Casey; brothers, Louis Melancon and Ray Melancon; grandchildren, Vic Potter and wife Lisa, Richard Potter and wife, Linda, Michael Potter, Anthony Broussard and Ann Marie Broussard; great grandchildren, Adam Potter, Andrew Potter, Alex Potter and Kyle Clark; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
The family extends their deep appreciation for the wonderful loving care she received from the wonderful staffs at The Arboretum, Winnie Community Hospital and the Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac.
