Another member of the world’s Greatest Generation has been called home. On Thursday, June 10, 2004 JESSE RAY KIDD (PaPa), age 83, passed into the arms of our Lord and savior at this home in Fannett, Texas surrounded by his loving family.
Jesse was born January 14, 1921 to Raymond Lewis Kidd and Irene May Loy in Milo, Oklahoma. He was one of 10 children and spent his formative years in Powell, Oklahoma. He married his wife of 63 years on August 27, 1940. Cora Loriene Bateman and Jesse were married by Loriene’s grandfather, F. M. Harrison, in Marshall County, Oklahoma. In 1944, Jesse and Loriene moved to Borger, Texas to work for Phillips Petroleum in the Carbon Black Division. They were transferred to Orange, Texas in 1960 where he worked until he retired in 1985. Mr. Kidd faithfully served Phillips for 41 years, retiring as the Superintendent of Maintenance Operations. When he was not working he loved to hunt and fish. He was an award winning gumbo chef and BBQ expert extra-ordinaire. Also, there was nothing he could not do with a piece of wood.
Jesse leaves his wife Loriene to cherish his memory. Other survivors include sisters, Lucille Owen of Conroe, Texas, Charlene Rowe of Borger, Texas, and Louanna Ingrum of Bell, California; brothers, Charlie Reese, J. L. Reese, and Buddy Reese all of Borger, Texas; his sons, Joseph Francis Kidd and wife, Linda of Groves, Texas, Billy Ray Kidd and wife, Carolyn of Destin, Florida; daughter, Deborah Vaughn and husband, Michael of Labelle, Texas. His grandchildren, Phillip Kidd of Dallas, Texas, Stephen Kidd and wife, Nathalie of Houston, Texas, Michelle Ballard and husband, Tim of Mobile, Alabama, Stephanie D’Angelo and husband, Tom of Chicago, Illinois, Michael Vaughn of Houston, Texas, Nicole Vaughn of Labelle, Texas, Chelle Blanchard and husband, Chad of Fannett, Texas also survive his passing as well as great grandchildren, Stephen Ballard, Blake Kidd, Morgan Kidd, Hannah Kidd, John D’Angelo, Lauren D’Angelo, Beau Blanchard and KatieBlanchard.
Having survived the Dust Bowl and Great Depression, you never heard the man complain. Without a doubt his sense of humor will be one of his defining traits. He loved to tell a good joke. As the end neared, he faced his own mortality with strength and dignity often telling a joke to put you at ease. Jesse always cared more for others than he did himself even in the gravest of times.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 12th. Street, Nederland. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Broussard’s Nederland Chapel with Billy Ray Robertson of the Church of Christ of Cheek, Texas officiating.
