James Sailor Howard, 81 years, of Port Neches passed away, Friday, May 28, 2004 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004 at Broussard’s Mortuary, 505 12th. Street, Nederland. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Broussard’s Nederland Chapel with Reverend Gaither Bailey officiating. Interment followed at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Pt. Neches.
James was born September 4, 1922 in Connarista, North Carolina and had been an area resident since mid 1940’s. He joined the Merchant Navy when he was seventeen years old and served his country during WW II. Upon his discharge from the military, he went to work for Pure Oil Company and was immediately known as Sailor. He was retired from Unocal Oil Company after thirty-eight years of service in the shipping department, and was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Port Neches.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-one years, Jessie Broadway Howard of Port Neches; children, Sharon Howard Alahmed and husband, Deeb of Houston, Don Howard and wife, Pam of Henderson, Eugene H. Broadway and wife, Charlotte of Houston, and Lynn Broadway and husband, Dan of Pensacola, Florida; five grandchildren, Jeb and Micah Howard, Sara Alahmed, Amie and Darcie Broadway; and one great granddaughter, Hannah Howard.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Velma Howard, and a son, Jimmy Howard who lost his life during the Vietnam Conflict.
